The 2026 edition of “Energy in Europe”, published by Eurostat, provides an overview of the latest trends in the European Union’s energy sector, including energy production, consumption, prices, imports, and environmental impact. The publication uses short explanations and interactive visualisations to help readers understand how energy systems work across EU countries.
One key finding is the growing importance of renewable energy: in 2024, about 48% of the energy produced in the EU came from renewable sources. The report also highlights how energy is used across sectors, noting that transport accounted for 31% of total EU energy consumption.
The publication also examines electricity prices, showing large differences between EU countries. In the first half of 2025, household electricity prices ranged from around €10 per 100 kWh in Hungary to €38 per 100 kWh in Germany.
Overall, the report aims to give a comprehensive picture of the EU energy market and its transition toward cleaner energy, while also exploring the relationship between energy use, economic activity, and greenhouse-gas emissions
